Ruben Brown on Donovan McNabb

Guard Ruben Brown, a nine-time Pro Bowler talks about Eagles QB Donovan McNabb.

Brown, who sat out last season due to injury after spending four seasons in Chicago, said he is trying to convince Chicago coach Lovie Smith that McNabb would be a good fit in the Windy City.

“I’d like to see him go to Chicago, I think it’s the perfect fit for him. The Bears are a smidgen away from getting back to the playoffs and getting into the Super Bowl and hopefully winning it. What would be greater than Donovan McNabb winning a Super Bowl with the Chicago Bears, when he’s from Chicago?”

Brown says McNabb, who is still under contract with the Eagles, deserves better than the reception he’s had in his 10 seasons in Philadelphia.

“I think for a guy like that to have to put up with all of the scrutiny that he’s put up with, being in Philadelphia — eventually, you’ve got to say enough is enough,” said Brown.

“For him, I don’t know. I don’t know how he feels. But me, personally looking at it, I’m saying enough’s enough. Give the guy a break. He’s been a very successful quarterback. There’s a bazillion teams out there that would love to have a quarterback like him. With the Eagles not treating him like he should be treated, he should go home. Go to Chicago where they’ll definitely love him.”

Deion talks about Donovan McNabb

Deion on Donovan McNabb’s future in Phili:

“I don’t hate Philadelphia, I never said anything derogatory about Philadelphia. What I said about Philadelphia is that Donovan McNabb wants to leave. I think it’s a beautiful city, but it’s also a city that cheered when Michael Irvin was injured. That’s my thoughts about the athletic realm of Philadelphia. But I never said I hate the city. I think it’s a beautiful city.”

If it’s so beautiful, why does he think McNabb wants to leave?

“Maybe it’s because they booed him on draft day, maybe it’s because they continuously doubt him when he’s taken them to four [actually five] NFC championship games. Maybe it’s because no matter what he does, it’s never enough. Maybe that’s the reason.”

McNabb has always publicly said that he wants to finish his career in Philadelphia, even though Sanders has said several times this season that the quarterback wants to leave the Eagles.

“Donovan is a well-spoken, articulate man, he does a great job representing himself professionally.”

But Sanders still thinks McNabb wants out.

“I’m telling you what I know and not what I’ve heard,” Sanders said before admitting that neither McNabb nor his mother, Wilma, have ever said to him that the quarterback wants to go elsewhere.

Just a thought:

Deion I think there is no chance Phili will let Donovan go after what he did after his benching.

No way!

Bears have 4th worst in playing field according to the NFLPA

The NFL Players Association released its 2008 Playing Surfaces Opinion Survey Thursday and again the Bears’ homefield ranked horribly

The leaguewide survey conducted during team meetings between September and November named Soldier Field the fourth-worst grass playing field in the NFL, ahead of only Pittsburgh, Oakland and Miami. The three best were Arizona, Tampa Bay and San Diego. It wasn’t just road teams that were dogging the surface. Bears players chose Soldier Field as the worst grass surface in the league.

Former Bear Ruben Brown talks about Bears season

Ruben Brown on the Bears season:

“I do like the 9-7 record because if you watch that team, that team was better than 9-7,” even though the final record was what it was, and the Bears were right there, one more win they’re in the playoffs. This is the thing when you look at the Cardinals, when you get in the playoffs, anything can happen. It’s anybody’s ballgame. Homefield advantage isn’t always homefield advantage. Same thing happened to us in 2005. Carolina came in and we had beaten them during the year. It didn’t matter. Chicago is promising.”

“Orton is as good as they can get right now, I’m not an Orton hater. I know there are a lot of other teams that wish they had a player like Orton to manage their team, an example is Buffalo, don’t turn it over and hand it off to our stud running back and let those guys carry the load with the defense. And that’s what we’re talking about. Let’s face it, we’re never talking about how great the quarterback is in Chicago not unless we’re talking about Sid Luckman. What we’re really talking about is the running game and the defense and the defense didn’t step up.

“Whether it is the D-line not producing enough pressure on the quarterback or just the inconsistent play all around for the unit because when that group was humming, they were humming. They were scaring everybody out of their socks when they walked on the field. Now, they have shown a vulnerable side. Injuries have caused that and just time. They’re not a young team. But with the draft if they can get some help on the line, I’ll tell you if they can get pressure on the quarterback, that defense is back.”

And if the defense is back, Brown believes the Bears will be back in contention.

TE Greg Olsen to be honored

Tight end Greg Olsen will be honored as the Bears player of the year Feb. 9 at the 21st Annual Comcast SportsNet Sports Awards at the Hilton Chicago.

Olsen had one of the most productive seasons by a tight end in Bears history in 2008.

His 54 receptions were the most by a Bears tight end since Hall of Famer Mike Ditka had 75 in 1964.

And with five touchdown catches, Olsen became the first tight end to lead the Bears outright in that category since Emery Moorehead also had five in 1982.

Anquan Boldin wants a Super Bowl Ring before he thinks about next season

Anquan Boldin what do you think of Bears fans spending their off-season longing for a trade from Arizona to Chicago so you can end the team’s search for a No. 1 wide receiver?

“I think that it just speaks to how you play the game, and real fans appreciate what you do on the field,” Boldin said Monday. “That is always flattering. But as far as thinking about next year or the future, it doesn’t help me right now. My only goal is to win the Super Bowl.”

Boldin still has two years and $5.75 million left on his contract but would want a new deal with any team that trades for him.

Even before his controversial pouting act at the end of the NFC championship game, Boldin said he wouldn’t play for the Cardinals beyond this season.

Offensive Coordinator Todd Haley might be the new Chiefs head coach next season, so that could play into Boldin’s wants.

“If you worry about too much of the future, you miss the moment right now,” Boldin said. “That is something that I don’t want to do.”

It’s going to take a lot of draft picks to reel Anquan Boldin out of Arizona
