Former Bears quarterback Rex Grossman signed a one-year deal with the Houston Texans today.

The deal is worth the veteran minimum, $620,000.

He was the second quarterback to lead the Bears to a super bowl.

You can say all you want that he was on for the ride in 2006, but he was still the quarterback of a Super Bowl team.

There were talks of Rex not even playing in the NFL this season.

It was about the new league called the UFL, where they basically get the leftover NFL players, the ones who couldn’t make it on the roster.

Grossman has a very good shot to back up Matt Schaub, because the Texans have former Lion, Dan Orlovsky, and last years seventh round pick, Alex Brink.

In four seasons with the Lions, Orlovsky has played in 12 games, throwing for 1679 yards, eight touchdowns and eight interceptions for a QB rating of 71.3.

Brink spent all last season on the practice squad.

So Rex you have a real shot at making the team.

If Chicago didn’t hate you so much you would be back this season backing up Jay Cutler.

The Bears need a veteran backup quarterback.

You can have an undrafted and unproven Caleb Hanie as your backup all day and your Northwestern product, Basanez as well.

I’m just saying if Cutler goes down we could be in real trouble.

Grossman is probably one of the better backups in the NFL and with the right system he could flourish.

He has a real shot of getting playing time this year in Houston.
