Today we’ll take a look at former Bears safety Brandon McGowan.
McGowan appeared in only 25 games with the Bears from 2005-2009 is the starting free safety for the New England Patriots.
McGowan moved ahead of James Sanders to claim the starting job in a week two loss against the New York Jets. McGowan has made a big impact for the Patriots defense. He has appeared in five games, making 29 tackles, two pass deflections and forcing one fumble. I’ve seen some of the Patriots games this season and it seems like every time I look McGowan is breaking up a pass or making a tackle.
I always liked McGowan, but he had problems staying healthy. In the 2007-2008 season McGowan made a career high 68 tackles and two interceptions in 14 games, but ankle and Achilles injuries limited McGowan to only play in three games during the 06-07, and 08-09 seasons. He was the reserve safety last season because Kevin Payne beat him out and that is ultimately why the Bears didn’t bring him back this season.
I wish McGowan well this season with the Patriots. I had hoped the Bears would have resigned him this off-season. Guys like Craig Steltz or Josh Bullocks just aren’t capable of being starters in this league and I know McGowan is very capable of being a starter as you can see this season.
Good luck Brandon.

McGowan was a solid player your right, but I guess they couldn't take anymore of injury prone players like Mike Brown, and Dusty Dvoracek. Did you see the last play of the Chiefs-Cowboys game yesterday? You know who missed the tackle? Mike Brown, I'm cheering for the guy, but he sure looked bad on that play

thanks for the comment. I actually did see that play and he did look very slow and old, but he did recover a fumble earlier in that game. I am still a huge Mike Brown and I wanted him back this season, but he looks done. Sad to say it.

He wasnt beat out. It was taken do to politics. Inside scoop= When brandon tweeked his ankle in camp in 08 preseason. Mind game a#@hole lovie came to him and askedd him. Do you know who wally pip is? Brandon said no sir. Lovie laughed and said i didnt think so. Brandon then went and looked him up. Well wally pip ended up being a guy that lost his starting position by being out one game do to injury. Low and be hold brandon was ready for the next game and who were they rotating him with? Kevin payne for one game the next game wich was season opener payne was the starter. So these butt f%^kin coaches. play these politic games. cause no way is payne better than mcgowan maybe equal at best. But check mcgowans stats now. Who is the man. Thats what happens when you have positive and proper coaching.

thanks for the comment. I really like McGowan and I wished the Bears kept him, but they are both similar players, not great in coverage and good run stoppers, but they went with the younger player which was clearly a mistake.
