Report: Bears Sign Cutler To Two Year Extension

713b040c18f26588d80e861eeb7d3782-getty-

According to Brad Biggs of Nationalfootballpost.com, QB Jay Cutler will receive $30 million for the two additional seasons with $20 million of it guaranteed in the form of bonus money.

He is now signed through 2013 instead of 2011, where he was at the beginning of the year. He was still on his rookie deal and now both sides win because Cutler gets $20 million guaranteed and the Bears don’t have to pay him Eli Manning money.

This move made sense because Cutler is obviously the future of this team, but the Bears had $15 million in salary cap space.

Good move by the Bears to extend Cutler, before they had to pay him too much.

He will be a star in this league for years.

A star? A star? With his 20-23 starting record, 28 INT's, terrible record in the red zone…even the league recognizes that Cutler is a mediocre QB at best…he's ranked 16th among NFL QB's. The job of a QB is to win and Cutler has yet to beat a winning team this season (Pittsburgh was 1-1 when the Bears beat them). He was the reason Shanahan was fired. Believe me, at the end of the year, Cutler will be proclaimed the hero in Chicago and they will have a mediocre record and be out of the playoffs. No one will blame Cutler but it will be his fault. Talk to Denver fans…they thought Cutler was their hero until a new coach who understood TEAM-football came in, dumped Cutler's sorry ass and brought in a REAL QB who was a team leader. Look at Cutler's stats…even Orton has more YPA. If Cutler is so much better than Orton on the long ball, why does Orton have more yards per attempt and why has Orton completed more 20 and 40 yard passes? Don't get caught up in all the hype…take a lesson from Denver.

Your totally wrong, Jay Cutler isn't completely polished yet, but he is a star and will be one. Kyle Orton has the best offensive line and nice offense surrounding him, Orton is ordinary at best. Cutler's record is because Denver's defense sucked when he was there. You don't just win games because of your QB, your defense has to contribute. i understand what your saying, but Cutler is legit and his offensive coordinator Ron Turner has to be more creative, to showcase his skills, instead of running horrible plays in the redzone which ultimately killed the Bears Sunday night. You can say all you want about Cutler being overrated because your a Broncos fan, but he is my quarterback and the QB of the future for the Bears. He doesn't seem like the nicest guy, but he is very good trust me, the Bears should have won the game easily on Sunday, you can't blame it on Cutler, he had a nice game, and played better than Matt Ryan. You have to blame the coaches and not Cutler. Cutler is the man, so back off. Bears are much improved from last season. Broncos are way overrated. They'll fall apart very soon, just watch.

    hey bearsbacker,
you are right on the $.if we had a creative play caller i think 2 losses would have been wins.
theres a stat i read that during cutlers career as a bronco he only lost 3 or 4 games when the broncos d held the opponent under 28 points,or something like that.
i have spoken to some bronco fans and they all loved the guy and were shocked and angry when he was traded.i dont think any of them are truly convinced today that orton can continue playing like he has .i liked him with the bears and think he can be a top 20 qb in the league if he isnt asked to do too much.getting Cutler was a great trade all the same.he is top 5 .
