Week 10 Home Matchup Against Lions Moved To 4:15 PM ET

The Bears-Lions game in Week 10 has been moved from a 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff to a 4:15 p.m. ET kickoff.

Week 10 marks the start of the flexible scheduling that the NFL provides viewers with.

The Lions have six wins currently, while the Bears have four.

It could be a matchup between the 6-2 Lions and the 5-3 Bears depending on what the Bears do next Monday night against the Eagles. The Lions have a bye in Week Nine.

This could be one of the better games during Week 10, so the NFL made a wise choice by moving the game to a later kickoff at 4:15 p.m. ET.

The Bears will wear their alternate orange for the second and final time this season against the Lions.

Safety Harris Picked Up Off Waivers By Rival Lions

The Bears released safety Chris Harris yesterday. Today he was claimed off waivers by the division rival Detroit Lions.

Harris heads to the 5-2 Lions, who defeated the Bears back in Week Five. In that game, Harris was beat by Lions WR Calvin Johnson for a 73-yard touchdown pass.

He will likely compete with strong safety Amari Spievey, who has three interceptions so far this season. Spievey has an interception in the last two games for Detroit.

With free safety Louis Delmas also in the lineup, it could be tough for Harris to get time on the field. But he brings experience and first hand knowledge of a lot of Detroits’ opponents.

It will be interesting to see how much they use Harris for the last stretch of the season.

Expect a welcoming return to Soldier Field for Harris, when the Lions come to town in Week 10. Harris will be reunited with former Bear Rashied Davis in Detroit.

The 29-year old veteran safety Harris will get to show what he has left in him in Detroit.

This could turn out to be a smart decision by Bears head coach Lovie Smith or a very bad one considering how young the current safeties are.

If Harris succeeds in Detroit, the fingers will be pointed at the person at fault, head coach Lovie Smith. If not, Smith will be able to move on from the this with more confidence as a coach.

Did You Know? 10-28-11

The Bears haven’t recovered a fumble in four games, and they’ve forced only three.

Last year they forced 37 and recovered 14.

Bears Add Rookie Williams Off Waivers

The Bears released veteran safety Chris Harris earlier today and taking his spot on the 53 man roster is rookie Jabara Williams.

Williams was released by the St. Louis Rams today. He was their seventh-round pick from Stephen F. Austin University this year.

He appeared in two games this season for the Rams. The Rams were looking to add him to the practice squad after his release, which came because of WR Mark Clayton and CB Marquis Johnson’s return to the active roster.

Williams is said to be athletic, but very raw. The Rams decided not to re-sign veteran Zac Diles in favor of Williams, so that shows you what they think of him.

With this move the Bears will have six linebackers and another special teams player on the roster.

Veteran safety Chris Harris couldn’t play special teams, so adding a young guy in Williams could turn out well for the special teams unit.

Expect Williams to suit up in Week Nine against the Eagles on Monday Night Football.

Note that Williams’ addition will not be official until he passes a physical.

Bears Decide To Go Younger, Release Veteran Safety Chris Harris

The Bears decided to release veteran safety Chris Harris today.

In his second stint with the Bears, Harris was a veteran in the secondary putting up solid numbers.

Last season he reeled in five interceptions and made 70 tackles, while being named second team All-Pro for the first time in his career.

This season on the other hand was not the same. In three games this year, Harris posted only eight tackles and looked lost while being beaten badly on two big touchdowns.

The first came in Week Five against the Lions, where Calvin Johnson beat Harris and teammate Brandon Meriweather for a 73-yard touchdown catch.

Last week, Harris was beat by Bucs receiver Dezmon Briscoe for a 24-yard touchdown.

Harris has always been a fan favorite and a great teammate, but the production just was not there this season.

He demanded a trade during the trade deadline two weeks ago after he was benched. He got the surprise start after Major Wright injured his hip last week and now he is no longer with the team.

He claims he wanted to retire a Bear and that is very believable, but it just seems like the Bears are happier with the other players they currently have.

He appeared in 44 games with 39 starts with the Bears, recording 234 tackles, 10 interceptions, three fumble recoveries and four tackles-for-losses.

Harris had a base salary of $1.095 million this year with a $500,000 roster bonus, the Bears will be on the hook for that number, unless another team decides to pick him up. That new team will owe Harris roughly $644,000.

Who will step up?

With Harris out of the mix, Major Wright moves back into the lineup at strong safety across from Chris Conte.

Brandon Meriweather will likely see some time in the rotation as well. Special teamers Craig Steltz and Anthony Walters will be active on gamedays as well.

The Bears seem fine with the fact that Wright and Conte will have six combined starts, when the Bears travel to Philadelphia to face the Eagles on Monday Night Football.

It will be interesting to see if Bears coach Lovie Smith made the right choice. Harris did not seem like the same player physically, but mentally he is still very smart.

They could have kept him around to coach up those younger guys like Wright and Conte.

Perhaps Harris wanted a situation where he could start. Rumors are already around that Minnesota and Jacksonville are interested in his services.

The Bears could look bad in this situation if the secondary falls apart, only time will tell.

Briggs Named NFC Defensive Player Of The Week

Lance Briggs was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week today.

He had six tackles, a tackle for a loss, one interception and two passes defensed in the Bears’ 24-18 win over Tampa Bay in the NFL International Series game at Wembley Stadium in London, England.

In the third quarter, with the Bears leading 21-5, Briggs recorded his first interception of the season and 13th of his career.

He has at least one interception in eight of his nine NFL seasons.

Chicago’s defense held Tampa Bay to 280 total net yards, including just 30 rushing yards.

The Bears recorded four interceptions and had one sack. This is Briggs’ second career Player of the Week Award (Week 3, 2009).

Briggs is the fourth Bears player to earn a player of the week recognition so far this season. Brian Urlacher won one back in Week 1, Devin Hester won one Week 4 and Week 6 and Matt Forte won one in Week 4

ESPN’s Wilbon Thinks The Bears Should Sign T.O.

ESPN columnist and co-host of ESPN’s “Pardon the Interruption” Michael Wilbon thinks the Bears should sign free agent wide receiver Terrell Owens.

Wilbon being from Chicago always has strong opinions about his hometown team, the Bears and he has a lot of knowledge about them as well.

He makes many strong points about adding Terrell Owens to the mix. A good point he makes about adding Owens, it would take pressure of Forte and Hester in the passing and screen game.

Owens did put up almost 1,000 yards and nine touchdowns in 14 games last season in Cincinnati.

Here’s a small part of his column that brings validity to the signing:

“There are two conditions that have to exist before a club can take the risk and sign T.O. for the rest of this season.”

1. You have to have a solidly entrenched and mentally tough veteran quarterback, a guy who can give nasty right back to T.O. when he starts up.

2. You have to have need.
